The world's most powerful passports in 2024 revealed:
The rankings for the most powerful passports in 2024 have been announced, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) maintaining its position at the top for the fourth consecutive year. This global ranking reflects the number of countries that citizens can enter without a visa. UAE passport holders enjoy access to over 90% of the world, with the ability to visit 133 countries visa-free and an additional 47 countries with a visa on arrival.
The remainder of the top 20 list is predominantly filled with European nations, as 19 out of the 20 most powerful passports are from Europe. Spain has surpassed Germany to claim the second spot, while Finland has moved up to third, ahead of France in fourth, Belgium in sixth, and Italy in seventh. Notably, France's passport remains the strongest among G20 countries.
The United Kingdom continues to decline in the rankings, falling 10 places from 22nd to 32nd in 2024. UK passport holders can visit 125 countries without a visa and 49 with a visa on arrival, having last been in the top 10 in 2017. Similarly, the United States has also seen a drop, moving from 27th to 38th place. U.S. citizens can access 123 countries visa-free and 50 with a visa on arrival, with the last top 20 ranking occurring in 2019.
Arton Capital, the organization behind the ranking, commented on the situation, noting the uncertainty surrounding the new U.S. administration and its potential impact on the passport's status. Currently, the U.S. passport is the weakest among the G7 nations, but there are hopes for improvement. Despite these challenges, the U.S. passport remains more powerful than that of China, which ranks 110th in the index.
